News Flash! Today is not Friday
Nov 26th, 2007 by mberry
For all of you regular readers of Friday’s “This Week in the News” feature, I must apologize for missing last Friday’s news post. But really, it wasn’t my fault. The house gremlin struck again, and with a vengeance. It was the middle of Wednesday afternoon, and I was installing new memory in the old PC in an effort to keep the old girl running just a little longer.
I don’t know, perhaps I was just being insensitive. The warning signs had been there for some months that she was getting tired. After all, she had been running almost 24/7 for the four and a half years it has been since I first powered her up. She was due a rest.
I had just installed the new memory stick, closed the case, and hit the button, only to be greeted by a black screen. Re-opening the case let a small puff of smoke escape, and that was that. No more warnings, just a declaration, “I ain’t gonna take it anymore!” It was time to hand the reigns over to a younger generation, a lively lass with the youth and energy to handle todays modern work load.
And so it is that we bid adieu to our faithful friend, she who saw us through our internet growing pains, and helped us to navigate the often confusing landscape of sites, blogs, channels, and forums. You will be missed, and remembered with fondness.
Her successor, an 2.4 Ghz Athlon X2 has many challenges facing her, and a big case to fill, but we feel that she will perform every bit as faithfully as her predecessor. Welcome to the family, I hope you like to work hard
As for “This Week in the News”, it will resume it’s regular appearance, shifted over one day, to Saturdays. That will give the new computer a chance to stretch her legs, and get into the groove of this family’s regular work day.
We’ll see you then!
